Arsenal fans are loving this tribute to their most controversial football shirt

Friend of the Football Shirt Collective, Daryl Higgins, has worked up some stunning interpretations of the teams’ finest shirts including the shirt that divides opinion. Arsenal’s bruised banana.

Some love it, some are sick in their mouth when they think of it, but Arsenal’s ‘bruised banana is a screaming classic.

Tony Adams, Lee Dixon and Ian Wright donned the bruised banana, with Wright bagging 30 goals in all competitions that season. It can’t have been that bad.

It was also East Lower’s first ever Arsenal shirt.

It was the scrambled egg, dazzle ship horror show from 1992, clearly designed by people who’d had a lot of fun in the acid house years. I’ve supported Arsenal since 1980, but that was the first shirt I ever had and I bought it as a joke – that’s how eye-stingingly foul it was. I could never have guessed that 20 years later it would gain cult status.

Here’s Daryl’s print. Glorious.  Get 10% off this weekend by entering SOCCASERIES at checkout.
