Alan Shearer is a Newcastle and Premier League legend.
The prolific former England striker was a force of nature in his playing days, relentlessly hitting an unbeaten 260 goals in the top flight.
And although he’s known for his time on Tyneside and at Blackburn, he made his professional debut on the South Coast with Southampton.
And here he is, with a glorious flowing head of hair in his debut season:
The skinny, fresh-faced youngster may not have looked like much, but he was still deadly in front of goal.
Shearer came off the bench in a 1998 First Division game against Chelsea, but he’d make headlines for his full debut at The Dell two weeks later, when he netted a hat-trick against Arsenal.
It was clear from the off that Shearer was an immensely talented player, but not many would have predicted that he’d become one of the greatest strikers England has ever produced.
If only his punditry skills were on the same level as his ball skills.
