Manchester United kits haven’t always been on point, and this effort from 1992 was a bit of a clanger when it was first released.
It may be Umbro – a truly iconic 1990s kit sponsor – and it may be a Sharp-sponsored kit, but the 1992-93 away kit was pretty damn ugly.
At the time, it seemed like a bit of a disgrace that a man with the style of Eric Cantona should have to wear such a hideous kit.
But time is a great healer. Looking at this kit now will surely fill United fans with warm, fuzzy nostalgia.
The blue-and-black design that looked so disgustingly abrasive in 1992, shines like a rare diamond in the harsh light of 2016.
The punchy badge printed in the shirt’s pattern looks like a design master stroke.
The kit was also worn by some legends of Old Trafford. Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Mark Hughes and Dennis Irwin all donned this beautiful aberration as United won the Premier League title.
It may be a hot mess, but we absolutely love this shirt and others like it. A bona fide cult classic.
