Manchester United have been splashing the cash in recent years.
Trying to keep the club close to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson has seen the club invest in some eyewateringly expensive talent.
Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and, of course, Paul Pogba all cost the club a pretty penny.
But did you know that one player who struggled struggled at United is the most expensive player of all time? Cumulatively speaking, of course.
Angel di Maria joined United in August 2014 under Louis van Gaal but, despite some seriously impressive performances at the beginning of his time, failed to make the impact many expected of a £59.7m player.
Few would argue that Di Maria isn’t a wonderful footballer. His performances at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have proven that he’s a class act on the wing, has a wand of a left foot and an eye for a goal or two.
And Di Maria’s talent has been spotted by a fair few clubs over the years. He’s played at Rosario, Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, despite being only 28.
According to talkSPORT, he’s accumulated a staggering £152.15m in transfer fees over the course of his career, more than any other player.
United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is second on their list, at £143.74m, and Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain is third at £119.85m.
