Arsenal have boasted some truly wonderful players over the years, from Alex James in the 1930s to Mesut Ozil in present day.
But which of them will make the select list of the greatest Arsenal players of all-time?
Here’s our top five. Give us a shout on Facebook to let us know yours.
5. Robert Pires
An essential player in Arsene Wenger’s greatest team, Pires was a wonder on the pitch. The France winger was brought in to replace Marc Overmars and proved himself to be the superior footballer.
Pires peaked at the same time as Arsenal did, in the years between 2001 and 2004.
4. Dennis Bergkamp
It’s impossible to talk about great Arsenal players and not mention the Dutch master. A born winner, Bergkamp helped Arsenal to seven trophies in 11 seasons at Highbury and is remembered for his brilliance on the pitch.
A highlight has to be that goal against Newcastle. No player has come close to replicating the audacious turn and finish. We salute you, Dennis.
3. Tony Adams
If you don’t concede goals, you won’t lose a game of football. Adams brought his unrivalled defensive nous and immaculate organisation to Arsenal’s back four between 1983 and 2002.
The best defender in Arsenal’s best ever defence, Adams spanned two iconic eras at Arsenal under George Graham and Wenger.
2. Patrick Vieira
Manchester United may have had Roy Keane, but Arsenal had Patrick Vieira. A hard-as-nails operator in midfield who was so much more than just an enforcer.
Vieira ate up the ground with the ball at his feet and terrorised his opposite numbers. When he wasn’t there, it told. In fact, when Vieira left in 2005, Arsenal wouldn’t win a trophy for almost a decade.
1. Thierry Henry
It would take a real maverick of a writer to not have Thierry Henry at the top of this list. Few would disagree with the statement that the former Juventus and Monaco striker became the greatest Premier League striker.
Not only was he a goal machine – the club’s all-time top scorer – but his 20 Premier League assists in 2002/03 remains a record today.
