Friend of the Football Shirt Collective, Daryl Higgins, has worked up some stunning interpretations of the teams’ finest shirts. Here’s a few of the finest ones:
Liverpool 1989-90 home kit
After missing out on the title on the final day against Arsenal the season before, Liverpool stormed back to win the Premier League at a canter in the 1989-90 season.
They also did it in this glorious Candy-sponsored, adidas home kit. Here’s Daryl’s slick design:

Manchester United 1992-94 away kit
Long before the green-and-gold scarf brigade came Newton Heath LYR Football Club, the name under which Manchester United was founded in 1878.
The club paid tribute to its heritage with the 1992-94 away strip: a classy, green and gold, SHARP-sponsored shirt by Umbro. Woof. Drool over Daryl’s interpretation:

Germany 1990 kit
Think of an iconic international football shirt, and you might just be visualising the glorious 1990 World Cup Germany kit. It was a farcically good kit worn by Rudi Voller, Jurgen Klinsmann and Lothar Mathaus. Adidas raised the bar by running the colours of the German flag across the gleaming white kit. Here’s Daryl’s illustration:
Manchester City 1994-95 home and third kits
Back in the 1990s Manchester City might not have been too clever on the pitch, but at least their bang-average players were clad in fine Umbro kits.
Take the 1994-95 range, when Paul Lake, Peter Beagrie and Uwe Rosler wore two of Umbro’s best ever club kits. Their twist on the sky-blue home shirt was a master stroke, but the white third kit was nothing short of genius. Here are Daryl’s gorgeous prints:
Arsenal 1992-93 ‘bruised banana’ kit
Some love it, some are sick in their mouth when they think of it, but Arsenal’s ‘bruised banana’ away kit of 1992-93 is a screaming classic.
Tony Adams, Lee Dixon and Ian Wright donned the bruised banana, with Wright bagging 30 goals in all competitions that season. It can’t have been that bad. Here’s Daryl’s print. Glorious.
