This is without doubt Liverpool’s greatest ever home shirt

Liverpool have had some great shirts over the years.  The Candy ’91 shirt, the adidas 3 stripes on the shoulder from 1992 and the Carlsberg adorned shirt worn in Istanbul.  But nothing comes close to this 1982 Liverpool home shirt.

What it is:  1982-85 Liverpool home shirt.

Graeme Souness lifting the European Cup trophy

What match made it special?

Liverpool wore the shirt in the 1984 European Cup final against Roma in the Stadio Olimpico.  The match was 1-1 and went to penalties with Liverpool holding their nerve.  You can watch that shoot out here.

Who wore it?

It was worn by Graeme Souness and his huge tache, Alan Hansen and BBC superstar Mark Lawrenson.

Why we love it?

Umbro nailed it with the subtle pin stripes and yellow logo and club crest.  It’s class.

  1. The adidas kit was total crap. An of- the-peg bland design of a ‘one shirt fits all clubs’. How many clubs across Europe had the same basic design? Lazy, unimaginative mass marketing!
