Watch: This Ian Wright goal for Arsenal against Leeds will make you want to tuck your collar in

Ian Wright scored some amazing goals for Arsenal.  His lob over Neville Southall, his 40 yards chip against Swindon and this classic against Leeds United.

Things were clicking into gear for Bruce Rioch’s Arsenal when they faced Leeds United in 1995/96.  They had Wright and Bergkamp up front with Merson, Parlour and Glenn Helder (!) just behind and the famous back 4.  Leeds were fronted by Premier League legend Tony Yeboah.

The ball broke to Bergkamp who laid it off to Wright by flicking it in his face.  It bounced kindly for Wright who took it outside David Wetherall and chipped it into the top left corner over an onlooking John Lukic.  Class.

Arsenal were wearing a classic Nike shirt with thick collar – that Wright tucked in – and Arsenal printed on the back.

Arsenal won the match 3-0 and the press lapped it up.

The Times:  Wright chips away at Arsenal’s reputation.

Peter Ball:  If his team carries on like this, it will be in danger of burying the ‘boring Arsenal’ tag for all time.

Arsenal would ultimately finish in 5th, the position that had belonged to Leeds in the last two seasons.
