But although he donned the blue of Chelsea with Lampard, Deco believes Scholes was the superior footballer.
Deco, who also played at Porto and Barcelona during his career, even put Scholes ahead of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in his list of great English midfielders.
Deco told Squawka: “I played with and against so many fantastic players in midfield like Gerrard.
When Deco and Lampard combined to set up a Drogba wondergoal:
“I had the opportunity to play with Lampard together at Chelsea. I think, because he was a different type of player to all other types of English midfielder, Paul Scholes was the best player that I saw playing for an English midfield and one of the best players in the world.”
