There are footballers who try their hand at music (The Anfield Rap with John Barnes, Diamond Lights by Waddle & Hoddle) and musicians who love football (Oasis and Manchester City, Stone Roses and Manchester United) but very few musicians have donned football shirts in music videos.  Here are some of the best football shirts in music videos.

Foo Fighters: Feast and Famine (Celtic)

In the Foo Fighters video for Feast And Famine, Dave Grohl is standing next to a DJ rocking the Celtic Magners shirt. Shout out to @clancyco6 and @paolodilamio for the spot.

The Beautiful South: The Prettiest Eyes (Cork City)

The early 90s was a golden era for football shirts. One of the best was this Adidas 1990s Cork City shirt. The Beautiful South featured it in their video for The Prettiest Eyes. Great taste. Quite frankly, the greatest football shirt ever worn in a video. (📸 Denis Hurley).

    The View: The Don (Italy)

Football Nation not only found this shirt but also supplied The View with an Italy shirt for their video for “The Don”. This little kid channelled his inner Mario Balotelli throughout.

Dani Umpi feat. Marabish (Tres Pasos)

Ok so now things go a bit crazy. Here is a nuts video by Dani Umpi featuring Marabish (📸  @footieandmusic).  From what we can tell, two guys in football shirts flank a dude in a blue onesie with really long hair. He then comes face to face with a man with a huge top made up exclusively of football shirts. Bravo. Can anyone tell what the shirts are? We are struggling.

Cicero: That Loving Feeling (PSB Riverside)

Cicero was a protégé of the Pet Shop Boys, signed to their Spaghetti label through Polydor. The video for That Loving Feeling featured not only one football shirt but 22. Cicero plays the role of goalkeeper for PSB Riverside (the team sponsored by Pet Shop Boys).

The video starts in the changing room and he goes on to show a mixed performance on clearing a series of corners. At one point he is so confident, Cicero hangs from the bar singing into the camera. Manuel Neuer eat your heart out.  (📸 ‏@ChristophLedger)

North & South: Tarantino’s New Star (Wimbledon and Manchester United)

North & South were the early 90s version of S-Club 7. Each week they featured in No Sweat, a children’s comedy show that followed the exploits of a struggling boy band.

In their video for Tarantino’s New Star they featured not one but two football shirts. Wimbledon 1997-97, and a classic Manchester United 1990-92. Sadly we don’t have a clip but here is a shot of them on Top of the Pops.  (📸 @christophledger).

    The Bluetones: Marblehead Johnson (Liverpool)

The video for Marblehead Johnson shows the Bluetones packing some pounds. Mark Morris is looking a bit Neil Ruddock-esque in his 1996-98 Liverpool shirt. Spice Boy.  (📸  @christopheledger).

    Dizzee Rascal: Flex (Fulham)

The video for Flex by Dizzee Rascal is an X-factor esque singing contest. Gabriel Zakuani adds a bit of class to proceedings by rocking up in his Fulham no sleeves training gear and doing some kick ups to wow the judges.  Skillz. (📸  @fsworlduk.)

Kingmakers: Really scrape the sky (Hull)

Not going to lie. This is obscure. In the Kingmakers video for “Really scrape the sky”, the bassist climbs a giant beanstalk whilst rocking a Hull shirt and what looks like a pair of red joggers. Strong. (📸 @oldschooltiger.)

Cockney Rejects: I’m forever blowing bubbles (West Ham)

The video of Cockney Rejects performing I’m forever blowing bubbles on TOTP is magnificent. Firstly there is some amazing miming going on. Secondly there is a class retro West Ham shirt. Vintage. (📸 @Marco_nerli.)

    It’s on: Flowered up (Brazil)

Flowered Up by It’s on is a pretty trippy video. There are loads of kids and adults dressed up as giant flowers. Things pick up when a dude in a Brazil shirt (not sure what year it is though) takes on Bez’s mantel by dancing like a nutter.  (📸 footieandmusic @christopheledger.)

Clipse present Re-Up Gang: Fast Life (Manchester United)

Nothing says Fast Life like a Manchester United, Nike shirt away shirt. Pusha T agrees sporting this away Manchester United shirt from the Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney era. (📸  @vojacar).

    Weezer: El Scorcho (Barcelona)

Weezer took wearing football shirts in music videos to a new level. One of my favourite shirts ever has to be this Barcelona, Kappa kit. It is a classic and Weezer agree, bossing it in the video for El Scorcho.  (📸  @sebpatrick)

    Weezer, Pink Lady: Newcastle

In the video for Pink Lady, Weezer have a montage of clips from the studio and on tour. Hidden away in the studio, the drummer is rocking a Newcastle shirt. Touch. (📸  @sebpatrick).

Weezer: Undone (Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz)

What better way to wrap up a hat-trick of football shirts than a beautiful a Mexico shirt. In the video to Undone, lead singer Rivers Cuomo is rocking a lovely Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz. Barca. Newcastle. Tiburones. Done.  (📸  @sebpatrick).
