Is this Manchester City’s best ever kit?

Manchester City’s football may not have always been top class, but they’ve had some wonderful kits in their day. The sky blue-and-white Brother-sponsored kits of the 1990s were a joy to behold, even if the players who wore them may not have been.Cast your eyes back to 1993-94, and City sported this Umbro-designed kit, complete with navy strips of the sleeve and a three-tone collar.

Or the gorgeous 1992-93 home and away kits. Classy purple stripes away from home, and the classic Man City sky blue at home.

Skip over the Thomas Cook and Le Coq Sportif years (they were pretty dreadful kits), and Umbro reappear as Man City’s kit manufacturer, with some great kits after the 2008 takeover. Like the 2010-11 third kit. All white with a black-and-red sash, City put the Etihad sponsore underneath the badge. A modern classic in our book.

And then Nike waltzed in, producing a similarly classy home kit last season.

But our favourite Man City kit is probably a bit controversial…

But the 1999 away kit wasn’t just a brave, fluorescent design from Kappa. It was the kit Manchester City wore in the most important game in their history. The kit Paul Dickov wore when he produced the Second Division’s Aguero moment.

It’s unique, it’s brash, and it will stir up memories of a great day in the club’s history every time a City fan looks at it. Phwoar.

  1. Without that iconic ‘kappa’ strip and what it represents, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
I was there to see dickov score the most important goal in our history, and also there to see the “biggest moment in premier league history” when Sergio scored – so both kits are iconic.
BUT – I like the 1969 FA Cup red/black stripes for an away kit and the light blue/white collar last season best of all.
Frankly, it’s not the shirt – ITS WHATS INSIDE IT !
